You are a marble. You are in a jar with other marbles of various colors and designs. You are admiring the way you all are arranged. Sometimes you sort of bump and rattle against each other, but over all it's cool. Suddenly the jar is turned over or dropped, and watch out! It's noisy and chaotic with movement in every direction. What happened? What will happen next? Is the jar shattered and how will you all fit back together? How far will some marbles roll and are some missing? Seems that things will never be the same again.Bingo!
(You're starting to understand what happened, even if you can't do anything about it.) The former pattern is unrecognizable. In fact, some of the marbles also are. You're not quite certain who's who or what's what. Color and design blur as you spin and others spin and roll past you. In the upset, marbles are scattered all over. Propelled by the crashing blow, some land in surprising places.

I think about something Parker Palmer wrote - that when the illusion is broken, one becomes disillusioned. And in that place comes reality. The turning out of the marbles could also be a way to allow the inner ones to move to a place where they are visible, more useable and in action.
So much of authenticity happens "outside the box" and maybe "outside the jar" is giving room for the Spirit to breath authentic life into more areas.
I thought I was feeling movement. I assumed it to be expansion, since my little corner of the jar was excited and abuzz about new things. Zooming out to assess the situation helps me see that it was actually constriction. All those inner marbles do need room to roll. Each of us gets a chance to see what reality awaits us as the spinning slows down.
